Week 4- Shapes (Abstract)

I did my best in this arrangement to make a rectangular shape on the outside, but have a flowing and unpredictable feel in the middle. This makes the piece geometric as a whole, but also organic and eye catching in the middle. Each individual piece is unique, but they work together to form a recognizable shape.

This piece is totally random. I threw the shapes onto the scanner and scanned whatever appeared. I threw the burgundy square on first then alternated the red and white pieces, with red being first. A lot of art is controlled and fixed so I thought it would be cool to do a piece that is totally random and see what happened.

This arrangement is of a skyline and buildings. I took the random shapes and did my best to put them together to form something that is recognizable and structured. Due to the shapes various shapes I had to think of a way to arrange them to get them to shape something that I was pleased with.

This picture has flow to it. I put edges that are similar next to each other to create paths that the eye can be pleased with. The curvy edges are next to curvy edges and the straight edges are next to straight ones. Other than this the piece is fairly loosely constructed. Therefore, it is somewhat random, but pleasing to look at.

I made a pattern with this piece, using colors are the basis. Patterns are pleasing to the eye and one can see the pattern with the red and white shapes that is briefly broken by the burgundy square. The pattern is controlled, but the shapes themselves are totally different. Therefore, there is a type of controlled chaos to this arrangement.

This key chain is filled with a variety of lines. The key loops are circular, while the keys themselves are formed by organic and somewhat random lines. There are also geometric lines found within the keys that show the car companies. The wooden surface they are on show natural and organic lines that range from thick to thin.

This photo of a stop sign and tile floor is mostly formed of geometric lines too. These fine and straight lines create definite shapes that are recognizable. The title, however, has some smudges areas which are created by thick and blurry lines. Most of the lines in this picture are precise and fine, but when one looks closely there are also messier lines found within the tile.

This photo of a fan shows mostly straight and curved lines that are geometric. They are equally spaced and form a pattern. One can see the shapes that they create fairly clearly. The lines are defined and clear too.

This photo of a laptop portrays a variety of lines too. The laptop itself consists mainly of detailed geometric lines that create specific shapes. The charger is more flowing and organic in nature. The board behind the laptop is patterned by lines if one looks close, but it is also randomized by the wear is has undergone. The lighting has also created some shadow lining throughout the photo.

This tent and nature photo consists of some geometric lines, but mostly organic and natural lines. The tents is shaped by straight lines, but also has random lines from its creases. The trees in the back are distant, but they are shaped by organic lines that appear to heavy because of the distance. The garage has fine horizontal lines and the grass has random straight and curved lines.

Week 2- 5 Line Drawings

I used a colored pencil to create this drawing of an eye. As one can see there are numerous and unique lines that make up the image. Compared to other drawing mediums these lines are fine and light. My lines in this drawing are precise and controlled. This means that they are more geometric than they are organic. Most of the lines that I used were curved to show the shape the eye. Pencil lines are great for showing detail and drawing geometric lines.

This drawing of a tree was created using markers. The lines I used were organic and flowing to create the tree trunk and leaf area. Compared to other drawing mediums these lines are thick and heavy. They show bright colors but aren't as detailed as some other mediums. I used heavy lines to fill in where the leaves should be and create some color there. Markers are good for making lines that are bold and colorful.

I drew this image of a hand drawing, along with an eraser and coffee cup using charcoal. The lines that charcoal makes are fairly fine and light, like colored pencils. However, they are darker and good for creating shadowing. Compared to other mediums the lines that charcoal makes are thin and detailed. The lines I used were geometric and created specific shapes. Charcoal is a little more bold and dark than colored pencils and is good for making detailed lines and shadowing.

I used an oil pastel to create this assortment of various lines. As one can see I drew lines that are light, dark, organic, geometric, dotted, wavy, and so on. Oil pastel lines are great for creating color, but are not very detail oriented. Compared to other mediums oil pastels are bold and colorful. They are good for creating vibrant lines.

This line assortment was drawn using a chalk pastel. I created various types of line that are: curvy, straight, organic, geometric, dotted, shadowed, and so on. Compared to other mediums these lines are vivid, bright, and somewhat messy. Chalk pastels are great for creating colorful lines and shadowing. There are several options with chalk pastels because of the many edges that they have too.

Week 1 Intro

Hello, my name is Quinn Niego. I am a junior here at St. Xavier University and have spent all my semesters of college here. I am majoring in accounting and am taking this 2D design course as a fine arts general education requirement. My first two years here I completed the honors core requirements, but decided not to go onto complete the honors scholar courses because of how busy I am. I am also a member of the basketball team here, which keeps me busy.
